Fire-retardant artificial plants

Fire-retardant artificial plants

Fire-retardant artificial plants for business and public spaces

In spaces where people work, stay or gather, strict fire safety requirements apply. Ordinary artificial plants made of plastic and textile are often not permitted. Our fire-retardant artificial plants (FR, fire retardant) have been developed for this purpose: they are difficult to ignite, barely spread fire and have been tested according to the European standard EN 13501-1 (Euroclass B). This allows you to combine a green, calming environment with a safe building.

• ✓ Tested according to EN 13501-1: Euroclass B, certificate on request
• ✓ Fire-retardant material: the property is in the material itself, not in a spray coating
• ✓ Lifelike and maintenance-free: no water, light or pruning required
• ✓ Wide range: plants, palms, trees, hanging plants, plug-in plants and green walls
• ✓ Many products are also UV-resistant: suitable for outdoors and bright spaces

What exactly does fire-retardant mean?

A fire-retardant artificial plant is made of materials that ignite slowly and self-extinguish as soon as the flame is removed. As a result, the plant hardly contributes to the development and spread of a fire. The fire classification is determined by a fire test according to EN 13501-1. Our FR collection has been tested to Euroclass B, the highest class achievable for combustible materials. We will send you the certificate or test report for each product on request, so you can add it to your building's fire safety file.

Why not impregnate or spray them yourself?

There are sprays to make artificial plants fire-retardant afterwards. That may seem cheap, but the effect cannot be demonstrated: you have no certificate, the coating wears off through dusting and sunlight, and the spray can discolour the leaves or give them a glossy layer. With our FR artificial plants, the fire-retardant property is in the raw material itself. According to the manufacturer, it remains effective throughout the entire lifespan.

Where do you use fire-retardant artificial plants?

Fire-retardant planting is the standard for projects where fire safety plays a role:

• ✓ Offices and commercial buildings: receptions, meeting rooms, flexible workspaces and atriums
• ✓ Hospitality and hotels: lobbies, restaurants, bars and breakfast rooms
• ✓ Healthcare and education: hospitals, care institutions, schools and childcare
• ✓ Retail and public spaces: shops, shopping centres, stations, museums and event venues
• ✓ Escape routes and tall buildings: where the fire brigade or insurer sets additional requirements

Our fire-retardant range

In this category you will find all FR products together: fire-retardant artificial palms such as the Areca and Kentia, large artificial plants such as Dracaena, Ficus and Bamboo, stately artificial trees with real trunks and bespoke blossom trees. For plant walls and ceilings there are fire-retardant hanging plants and plug-in plants. Ready-made solutions include the bespoke fire-retardant green wall, the artificial moss wall panels, the CoolPlantWall® panels and the bespoke plant ceiling.

Fire-retardant and UV-resistant

Part of the collection is also UV-resistant. These products do not discolour quickly in bright sunlight and are suitable for outdoors, conservatories and spaces with lots of glass. Use the UV-resistant filter or view all UV-resistant artificial plants.

Frequently asked questions

Are fire-retardant artificial plants mandatory?

That depends on the building and its use. In public buildings, hospitality, healthcare, education and along escape routes, the Building Decree for the Living Environment, the fire brigade or the insurer often set requirements for decorative materials. In most situations, our FR artificial plants and the accompanying certificate ensure compliance. If in doubt, consult your fire safety adviser or contact us.

What fire classification do your fire-retardant artificial plants have?

Our fire-retardant collection is tested in accordance with EN 13501-1 and achieves Euroclass B. We send the certificate or test report for each product on request.

Does the fire-retardant effect remain intact?

Yes. The fire-retardant property is in the material itself and does not wear off like a spray coating. According to the manufacturer, the effect remains for the entire service life. Dusting or cleaning with a damp cloth has no effect.

Can I also use fire-retardant artificial plants outdoors?

Products that are both fire-retardant and UV-resistant are suitable for outdoor use. You can recognise them by both icons in the photo and by “UV-resistant” in the product name.

Do you supply fire-retardant artificial plants in large quantities?

Yes. Coolplant supplies projects and resellers, with tailored advice and, on request, including planters, design and installation.
